Easy Cheesy Taco Bake Recipe

Cheesy Taco Bake Recipe

Transform standard taco night into a towering, scoopable casserole. By utilizing a buttery crescent roll dough as your crust, you create a flaky, deeply golden foundation that perfectly holds the fiercely savory meat, cool sour cream layer, and shattered tortilla chip topping.

Ingredients

  • The Flaky Foundation: 1 tube (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough.

  • The Savory Core: 1 pound lean ground beef and 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning.

  • The Cool Barrier: 1 cup full-fat sour cream.

  • The Melty Crown: 2 cups freshly shredded Mexican-blend cheese.

  • The Crucial Crunch: 1 cup lightly crushed Doritos or tortilla chips.

Instructions

  1. The Oven Prep: Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

  2. The Crust Bake: Unroll the crescent dough entirely and press it flat into the bottom of the baking dish, pinching the seams tightly together to form a solid sheet. Bake completely bare for 8 to 10 minutes until lightly golden and puffed.

  3. The Meat Sear: While the crust bakes, brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat. Drain the grease, add the taco seasoning and water, and simmer until fiercely thick and heavily coated.

  4. The Strategic Layering: Remove the golden crust from the oven. Spread the hot taco meat completely edge-to-edge over the warm crust. Immediately spread the sour cream evenly over the hot meat.

  5. The Golden Finish: Blanket the casserole completely with the shredded cheese. Scatter the crushed Doritos heavily over the top. Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 8 to 10 minutes until the cheese is spectacularly melted and the chips are deeply toasted. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing into massive, scoopable squares.
